Hyderabad: Commissioner Hyderabad Division, Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi, has imposed Section 144 and banned pillion riding on motorcycles in selected districts and areas on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS).
According to an official notification issued on Monday, the decision was taken on the recommendations of the Inspector General of Police, Sindh, and the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hyderabad Range, to ensure effective security arrangements, maintain law and order, and prevent any untoward incidents during Chehlum processions and religious gatherings.
The ban on pillion riding will remain in force in the entire districts of Hyderabad, Matiari, Dadu and Sujawal, while it will also apply to Tando Allahyar City and Thatta and Jherruck towns.
The notification exempts women, children, senior citizens, uniformed personnel of law enforcement agencies, accredited journalists carrying valid press cards, and officials directly engaged in Chehlum Majalis and processions.
The Commissioner has further authorized police officers not below the rank of Inspector to register cases under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code against anyone found violating the order.
