Lahore: On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provincial government has launched a live monitoring system for underpasses across Punjab to ensure the timely detection and removal of rainwater during the ongoing monsoon season.

Under the initiative, a real-time live feed system has been introduced to monitor rainwater accumulation in underpasses and facilitate its immediate drainage. Cameras installed by the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) will continuously monitor underpasses, enabling the relevant authorities to instantly identify any waterlogging and initiate a swift response.

The new monitoring mechanism is aimed at preventing prolonged accumulation of rainwater, ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow and enhancing public safety during heavy rainfall. The live surveillance system is expected to significantly improve coordination among field teams and support prompt drainage operations across the province.

Lahore: A four-year-old boy, Muhammad Yasin, who was injured in a stray dog bite incident, died on Thursday at Mayo Hospital. According to sources, the boy was bitten by a stray dog about a month ago. According to the family, the boy was vaccinated on time, but his condition became critical due to rabies.

According to doctors, the boy was kept in intensive care and was transferred to a ventilator when his condition worsened, but he could not survive.

After the incident, citizens have demanded prevention of stray dogs and timely measures to prevent such tragic incidents.

Lahore: The Punjab government has formally contacted the federation to procure 1 million metric tons of wheat from PASSCO to keep the wheat market stable. After the approval of the Punjab cabinet, a letter has been sent to the Ministry of National Food Security.

According to official sources, the previously approved permission to purchase 200,000 metric tons of wheat will remain in place, while a request has been made to provide 800,000 metric tons of wheat.

According to officials, the purpose of acquiring wheat is to maintain stable supply and prices in the market.

Lahore: Pakistan Railways has commenced the expansion of Platforms 2 and 4 at Lahore Railway Station to improve passenger convenience and address a long-standing operational issue, according to a Pakistan Railways spokesperson on Thursday.

The spokesperson said the project was launched to ensure safer and easier boarding and disembarking for passengers, particularly on trains operating between Lahore and Karachi.

Due to the insufficient length of the existing platforms, one or two coaches of some trains arriving from Karachi or departing from Lahore for Karachi used to stop beyond the platform, creating difficulties for passengers. The problem particularly affected elderly people, patients, women and children, who often faced inconvenience while boarding or alighting from these coaches.

To resolve the issue, Pakistan Railways has initiated the extension of Platforms 2 and 4. Upon completion of the project, all coaches of trains will halt fully alongside the platforms, enabling passengers to board and disembark safely and comfortably.

The decision to expand the platforms was taken during a recent visit by Pakistan Railways Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Hafeez Ullah and Divisional Superintendent Railways Lahore Inam Ullah.

Meanwhile, Divisional Superintendent Inam Ullah has directed Divisional Executive Engineer Ghulam Murtaza to ensure continuous monitoring of the quality, standards and pace of work so that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high construction standards.

Lahore: DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran, declaring the peace of the city and the protection of citizens as the first duty, ordered a full-scale crackdown on illegal Afghans.

Deciding to take action against Afghans associated with business and employment in commercial centers, markets in Lahore, DIG Operations directed the relevant authorities to arrest those who provide accommodation and facilities to illegal Afghans.

In a meeting with the Sadar Division Police on crime prevention, DIG Operations directed the SHOs to control incidents of motorcycle snatching. SP Security, SP Sadar, circle officers, SHOs, in-charge of the outpost attended the meeting.

He said that the supply of ice, hashish and other drugs should be stopped, strong action should be taken, absconders and habitual criminals, court fugitives should be brought to justice, there is a zero tolerance policy on cases related to women and children, immediate action should be taken.

The DIG Operations said that crime is not acceptable under any circumstances, cases should be registered under the correct provisions, SHOs should reach the crime scene, fulfill the requirements of providing justice to the oppressed citizens, legal and departmental action will be taken against corruption and negligence in duties.

Lahore: Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) here on Thursday launched a comprehensive safety campaign in walled city. A detailed structural survey of historical and residential buildings in walled city has been completed. According to Walled City Authority, a total of 254 dangerous buildings were identified during the survey, 101 dangerous buildings were declared repairable, and notices for immediate repair were issued to the owners. While, 105 dangerous buildings were evacuated, and safety measures were intensified before the monsoon. As many as 48 extremely dangerous buildings were declared to be demolished or demolished.

Instructions were issued to the building owners to immediately repair or evacuate the building. Continuous monitoring of dangerous buildings was underway to protect the lives and property of citizens. Directions were given to ensure timely cleaning of roofs, drains, gutters and downpipes, it added.
