Sargodha: District Police Officer (DPO), Muhammad Touqeer Naeem on Saturday carried out surprise inspections of several police stations across Sargodha district, directing officers to improve public service, strengthen patrolling and expedite the disposal of pending cases.

The DPO visited Jhal Chakian, Shahpur City, Shahpur Saddar and Jhawarian police stations, where he reviewed administrative affairs, security arrangements and the overall functioning of the facilities.

During the inspections, he examined the condition of police station buildings, cleanliness, record rooms, lock-ups and the performance of front desks.

Naeem instructed police officials to treat complainants with dignity and ensure their grievances were addressed promptly, stressing that every citizen deserved respectful treatment at police stations.

He also directed officers to adopt more effective patrolling strategies and ensure the timely disposal of pending and high-profile cases.

The DPO said providing swift justice and maintaining a secure environment for residents remained the police department’s top priorities, urging officers to uphold professional standards in the discharge of their duties.

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani stated that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued clear directives for the immediate disposal of court cases.

Chairing a meeting of the Divisional Coordination Committee here on Saturday, the Commissioner said that, in line with these directives, cases pending for more than six months are unacceptable under any circumstances. He directed that show-cause notices be issued immediately to officers responsible for any unjustified delays in such cases.

Commissioner further instructed all districts to take emergency measures to eliminate the backlog of pending cases within the next fifteen days and ensure daily monitoring of every case. Commissioner Salman Ghani emphasised that the timely disposal of revenue cases is essential for providing prompt justice to the public and strengthening good governance.

He directed that all revenue cases be dealt with on a fast-track basis, unnecessary delays be eliminated, and every case be decided within the prescribed timeframe.

He also instructed all departments to ensure timely compliance with court orders, maintain complete and accurate records of all cases, regularly review progress and submit weekly progress reports to the Commissioner’s Office. He reiterated that reducing the backlog of pending cases and ensuring timely decisions remain among the top priorities of the Government of Punjab.

The review meeting on pending court and revenue cases in the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) was attended by the heads of the concerned departments and law officers in person while the Deputy Commissioners of Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, and Murree participated via video link.

Sargodha: Two women were killed and two others injured after a car collided with a truck on the M-2 Motorway near Kot Momin on Saturday, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) said.

According to an NHMP spokesperson, the accident occurred due to the driver’s alleged inattention, causing the car to crash into the truck.

Motorway Police personnel rushed to the scene shortly after receiving information about the accident, shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and managed traffic to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles on the motorway.

The deceased were identified as Afshan Bibi and Robina Bibi.

SP Motorway Police, Faisal Akram also visited the site to oversee the rescue and relief operation, while the sector commander monitored rescue activities and traffic management, the spokesperson added.

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Salman Ghani, visited Gawalmandi Nullah Lei Bridge to review water flow, drainage and monsoon arrangements in during rainfall. Officers from WASA, Rawalpindi Waste Management Company, Civil Defence, Rescue 1122, Municipal Corporation and other concerned departments accompanied him during the visit.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert throughout the monsoon season and ensure complete preparedness to handle any emergency situation.

He emphasized that effective drainage arrangements must be made to prevent rainwater accumulation at any location that could disrupt citizens’ movement and daily routines. Commissioner directed WASA to maintain continuous monitoring of Nullah Lei, Gawalmandi and other locations and to keep a close watch on water flow.

All disposal stations, heavy machinery, dewatering sets and other essential equipment must remain operational and available in the field at all times. Commissioner Rawalpindi stated that all control rooms should remain active 24/7, concerned officers and field staff must be present at their duty points and a prompt response to any complaint or emergency must be ensured.

He further directed that pre-visit and post-visit photographs and situation reports be uploaded on portal in a timely manner to ensure effective monitoring and prompt reporting.

Sialkot: On the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mian Kazim Ali Pirzada visited Sheikhupura and Gujranwala and conducted a detailed review of the drainage situation in flood channels due to unprecedented rains.

Secretary Irrigation Dr Wasif Khurshid, Chief Engineer Lahore Rashid Minhas and other senior officials of the Irrigation Department were also present on this occasion.

During a briefing by officers of the Irrigation Department, the Provincial Minister was informed that over 100 rain drains from Narowal, Zafarwal, Sialkot, Sheikhupura and Gujranwala discharge their water into Nullah Bhed, Nullah Deik and Nullah Niki Deik. Due to extraordinary rains, these three major channels are currently carrying almost double their normal capacity. Later, all this floodwater merges into the River Ravi near Sharqpur.

The Provincial Minister conducted a special inspection of Nullah Bhed on GT Road and, taking immediate notice of encroachments on the channel, directed the administration to remove all encroachments on the nullah at once.

Later, Mian Kazim Ali Pirzada also visited Nullah Deik and Nullah Niki Deikh, where he reviewed the water flow, drainage situation and encroachments along the banks of the channels.

He issued clear instructions to the district administration that all encroachments on these channels be removed without delay so that a safe and unobstructed passage for floodwater is ensured under all circumstances.

The Provincial Minister for Irrigation directed field officers to maintain 24/7 monitoring of all three channels, ensure continuous monitoring at vulnerable points, and take all necessary measures in time for the safe passage of floodwater.

He said that protection of the public, infrastructure and agricultural land is the top priority of Punjab government, and no negligence in this regard will be tolerated.

Peshawar: The city police on Saturday arrested a moonshiner and recovered 10 bottles of liquor in the jurisdiction Phandu police station. Acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid and arrested a moonshiner identified as Salmoon Maseeh has been carrying 10 bottles of liquor on his bike.

The accused confessed of supplying drugs to different people residing inside and suburb of the city. Case was registered and further investigation was in progress.
