83 roadside, 8 main underground water tanks completed in 51 cities


Lahore: A meeting chaired by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique reviewed the progress on Punjab Development Program (PDP). Municipal Officers Infrastructure (MOI) and Assistant Project Directors (APD) participated through video link.



Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique said that 83 roadside and 8 main underground water tanks have been completed in 51 cities under PDP. He commended the entire team for the 100 percent construction of roadside water tanks, stressing that the remaining 14 main water tanks should also be constructed by next month, September.



He said that 88 drains have also been constructed 100 per cent under PDP so far. Zeeshan Rafique said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also approved the provision of machinery to each city to deal with rains under the PDP. “So far, 91 jetting/suction machines and 77 de-silting units have been provided to different cities. The Program Management Unit (PMU) has also received 20 de-watering sets, while 45 units will be received in September. While the final delivery of 30 new de-watering sets will be made in October”, he observed.



The Minister for Local Government said that for the first time, such a large number of machinery has been purchased to deal with urban flooding. “The inclusion of a fleet of modern machinery has increased the efficiency of local government institutions during the rainy season”, remarked he. Zeeshan Rafique directed that proper maintenance of the new machinery received should be mandatory.
