Multan: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO), Dr Asif Mahmood Jah, ensured the payment of record refunds amounting to Rs 21 billion to aggrieved taxpayers during 2024 after completing the prescribed legal process. Coordinator to FTO for South Punjab, Saif Ur Rehman, addressed an awareness session with the business community here on Sunday. He stated that numerous refund complaints received nationwide were duly processed as per the law, resulting in timely refunds. He highlighted that 66.55% more complaints were filed last year compared to the previous year, with 95.96% of these resolved successfully, providing lawful relief to complainants. Saif Ur Rehman remarked that the business community had shown confidence in the FTO's performance, appreciating the swift resolution of grievances. He assured that aggrieved taxpayers, including importers and exporters, could file complaints through various channels such as regional offices, email, fax, post, the FTO website, or WhatsApp, with complaints processed with in 24 hours of submission. He urged the business community to pay Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) taxes on time to support the state's operations. He reiterated the government's commitment to facilitating businesses through various incentives aimed at promoting economic growth and ease of doing business. The FTO is scheduled to visit the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry next month to meet traders from South Punjab.
21 Pakistani nationals rescued off Moroccan coast: FO
Islamabad: Based on verified information, twenty-one Pakistani nationals have been identified among the survivors of a maritime incident near Dakhla, Morocco.
'Through our diplomatic mission in Rabat, immediate assistance has been mobilized for the affected nationals. The Embassy has arranged essential provisions including food, water, medicine, and clothing. Local authorities in Dakhla are providing shelter and medical care in response to our diplomatic outreach,' Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release on Sunday.
Embassy's consular team was currently present in Dakhla to oversee relief operations and coordinate with local authorities.
The government remained in close coordination with relevant authorities in Morocco to ensure comprehensive support for the affected citizens and finalise repatriation procedures, the spokesperson said, adding 'We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of overseas Pakistanis and will continue to monitor the situation closely.'

Verification process completes under Transfer of Livestock Assets project in Lodhran
Lodhran: The verification process has been completed to provide animals to the eligible women under the 'Transfer of Livestock Assets to Widows, Divorced Women' project in order to empower rural women. Talking to reporter here on Sunday, Deputy Director Livestock, Dr Waqar Aslam, said that one cattle heifer or buffalo heifer would be given to each woman free of cost for one year. He said that animals would be given to eligible women through a draw as the data of over 900 women was sent to the department for further process. He said the urban unit had made the verification while the livestock department re-verified the rejected women. As many as 456 animals would be given to eligible beneficiaries across the district. He informed that 11,000 animals would be distributed at 13 districts across South Punjab. The women would be bound to take care of these animals for one year in own custody while the livestock department would provide artificial insemination, vaccination and other services. The pu rpose of project was to empower the rural women financially so that they could run their businesses and earn livelihood, he concluded.
