Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday inaugurated the modernised office complex of the Senate Secretariat at Parliament House, describing it as an important step towards institutional reform and administrative modernisation.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider, senior Senate Secretariat officials and members of the project team.
Speaking on the occasion, Gilani said strong democratic institutions required modern systems, efficient infrastructure and a professional working environment.
He said the project was part of a broader reform agenda to improve institutional efficiency, strengthen service delivery and enhance the Secretariat’s ability to support Parliament in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
The chairman said the project reflected the Senate Secretariat’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and the efficient use of public resources.
Instead of constructing a new building, the existing office complex was upgraded through better planning, resulting in improved functionality, better workspace management and greater institutional capacity.
As part of the project, the Senate Secretariat installed a modern Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) air-conditioning system for the first time.
The system includes a fresh-air oxygenation feature that provides a continuous supply of fresh air while improving energy efficiency, climate control and indoor air quality.
The project also redesigned the existing office layout to create additional office space without expanding the building.
Gilani appreciated the efforts of the project management team, engineers, architects, consultants and Capital Development Authority (CDA) staff for completing the project successfully.
Reaffirming his commitment to institutional development, the chairman said modernising parliamentary institutions was essential for transparent, efficient and responsive governance.
He expressed confidence that the upgraded facilities would strengthen the administrative capacity of the Senate Secretariat and improve its support for Parliament and its committees.
He said the initiative reflected the Senate Secretariat’s continued focus on modernisation, sustainable reforms and the adoption of innovative solutions to strengthen parliamentary governance while ensuring the efficient use of public resources.
