Multan: Jamiat Ulema Islam (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Monday that his party would continue to play its parliamentary role effectively. Addressing at the Jamia Qasim ul Aloom here, he said that he kept raising voice of all school of thoughts in the parliament. Ulema should participate in the political affairs, he said and posed a question 'why should they left politics for other people'. He said ulema played a vital role in politics during 19th and 20th century, due to which there were no problems and the Ulema kept people united. He stated that liberals divide people through their prejudice thinking, adding that Islam gives the message of acceptance for all. Fazlur Rehman wished peace and economy flourishing in the country. About the 26th amendment, he stated that JUI-F succeeded in removing some controversial clauses in the draft. Hundreds of students and teachers were also present.
Minister orders suspension of deputy director over negligence
Lahore: Punjab Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Sohail Shaukat Butt conducted a surprise visit to various institutions under the department in District Narowal.
The visit revealed serious issues, including poor management, a shortage of medicines, unsatisfactory sanitation, and inadequate food supply for residents. Expressing strong displeasure over the negligence and poor performance, the minister immediately ordered the suspension of Deputy Director Narowal, Muhammad Ghalib.
Sohail Shaukat Butt firmly stated that negligence and carelessness in public welfare institutions will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against responsible officers.
The minister directed relevant authorities to take it's corrective measures and improve institutional performance. He assured that providing better facilities to the public and deserving individuals remains the top priority of the Government of Punjab.
Sindh Assembly Committee constituted to investigate Karachi Board’s irregularities
Karachi: Sindh Assembly on Monday constituted a committee to investigate alleged financial irregularities in the educational boards of Karachi.
The provincial Assembly after thorough discussion by the members of both the sides, formed a committee headed by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah to review the alleged irregularities in the educational boards.
Sindh Assembly session was held here at the Assembly building, with Deputy Speaker Anthony Naveed in the chair.
Sindh Assembly members Sadia Javed, Taha Ahmed, Shabbir Ahmed Qureshi, Yousaf Baloch, Wasim Ahmed and Farooq Ahmed were among the members of the PA committee and it will investigate the matter and submit its report in the House.
IHC adjourns Dr. Aafia release case till Jan 24
Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday adjourned Dr. Aafia Saddiqui's release case till January 24 and termed that the next week is important pertaining to the matter.
Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the case regarding the release of Dr. Aafia Saddiqui from a US jail. Dr. Fouzia's lawyer Imran Shafiq appeared before the court and adopted the stance that neither the response to the PM's letter to the US president came so far nor was the receiving of the letter confirmed by US authorities.
The lawyer said that his client Dr. Fouzia, the sister of Dr. Aafia, has reached the US and so far she could not meet Pakistan's ambassador to the US. At this, the court instructed the foreign office to arrange the meeting of Dr. Fouzia with Pakistan's ambassador in the US.
The bench remarked that the next week in this case is important and the court has also given instructions to the foreign office in this regard.
During the hearing of Dr. Aafia's case, the representative of the Foreign Office informed the court that the record regarding the PM's foreign visits couldn't be presented on Monday due visit of the Secretary Foreign Affairs to China. He requested the court to grant time in this regard. The court granted time till next week for submission of the record and adjourned the case till January 24.
It may be mentioned here that the IHC's bench had sought a record regarding the foreign visits of PM in a hearing dated December 20.
Gola expresses sorrow on death of elder brother of Sardar Akhtar Jan
Quetta: Deputy Speaker Balochistan Assembly Ghazala Gola expressed deep sorrow over the death of the elder brother of Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal on Monday.
In her condolence statement, she said, "we shared the grief of the deceased's family and stand with them in this difficult time".
She prayed that Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal abode with peace and grant courage to the bereaved family members.
Two held with looted yarn
Faisalabad: Nishatabad police claimed on Monday to have arrested two alleged dacoits and recovered looted yarn worth Rs 1.35 million from their possession. On a tip-off, the police conducted a raid and arrested two suspects identified as Abbas and Sarfraz aka Munni, and recovered 27 yarn bags loaded in a loader rickshaw. The accused looted the yarn few days ago from the area of Khurarianwala police station. Further investigation was underway.
