Quetta: Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani chaired a meeting of the Universities Finance Commission (UFC), attended by Finance Secretary Jahangir Kakar, Colleges Secretary Hashim Ghilzai, vice chancellors, representatives of various universities, and other officials.
The meeting reviewed the distribution formula for Rs. 8 billion allocated to universities in the fiscal year 2026-27. Financial challenges and requirements of different institutions were discussed in detail.
University representatives highlighted their financial difficulties, while the Finance Minister assured that all issues would be brought to the attention of higher authorities and resolved with maximum effort.
They expressed gratitude to the provincial government, noting that timely measures had ensured smooth payment of salaries and pensions.
Special progress was reported on the University of Balochistan’s pension liabilities. With government approval, the Finance Department has provided Rs. 500 million as a loan to help settle long-standing dues.
Minister Shoaib Nosherwani reaffirmed that the government will continue to support universities within available resources, stressing that financial stability is vital not only for addressing staff concerns but also for sustaining quality education and research.
