BoG reviews progress on Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research


Lahore: The 21st meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research was held on Tuesday at the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education under the chairmanship of BoG Chairman and former Punjab chief secretary Capt (retd) Zahid Saeed.



Punjab Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood attended the meeting along with King Edward Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayaz, Prof Muhammad Moin, Prof Zeba Aziz, IDAP Chief Operating Officer Maira Ali, Additional Secretary (Technical) Dr Muhammad Waseem, Additional Secretary (Technical), Health and Population Department, Dr Zohaib, and other officials. Health economist Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan, Dr Qaiser Bashir, Finance Department Additional Secretary Zabda Bashir, Law Department Director Shahid Imtiaz and PandD representative Saadat Ali joined the meeting via video link.



The board reviewed the progress of the under-construction cancer institute, human resource matters and other administrative issues. A nine-point agenda was presented and approved, while the implementation report on decisions taken during the 20th BoG meeting was also reviewed. The board approved the minutes of the previous meeting.



The meeting discussed the final recommendations for the appointment of the institute’s dean and approved the appointments recommended by the special selection board. Members were also briefed on the procurement process and stressed the need for the early recruitment of human resources to ensure the hospital becomes operational on schedule.



Speaking on the occasion, Capt (retd) Zahid Saeed said construction work on the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research was continuing round the clock. He said a fixed deadline had been set for completion of the project’s first phase and directed the Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab (IDAP) to ensure the hospital was made functional within the stipulated timeframe.



Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood said implementation of all decisions taken during the meeting should be ensured without delay. He said no compromise would be made on the quality of treatment and healthcare services to be provided at the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research.
