Hyderabad: An international conference on obesity and metabolism aimed to educate the public and medical professionals about their latest treatments and its adverse effects was held here on Sunday at local hotel.

The conference was organized by the Director of Clinical Sciences of the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, nationally renowned gastroenterologist Prof. Dr. Sadiq Memon, with the support of Feroze Sons Pharmaceutical Company.

Health experts shed light on the various aspects of obesity and its modern management and identified it as 13 life-threatening diseases, including heart disease, hypertensive kidney disease, and liver disease, and was called the mother of diseases.

Professor Dr. Sadiq Memon said that the death rate is increasing due to obesity and the obesity disease in children is increasing to an alarming level. If the campaign to eliminate obesity is not carried out on an emergency basis, obesity will increase in the country in the next few years, he added.

The chief guest of the conference was Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Chancellor University of Modern Sciences, Tando Muhammad Khan, while Prof. Dr. Gulshan, Vice-Chancellor People's University of Medical and Health Sciences Shaheed Benazirabad also participated in the conference.

Professor Dr. Waseem Jafari spoke in detail about obesity and fatty liver disease. Dr. Nadeem Naeem highlighted the pharmacological management of obesity. Prof. Dr. Basit gave a detailed discussion regarding the management of metabolic syndrome.

Dr. Farooq Khan from Dubai informed about endoscopic management of obesity through video links while Dr. Syed Imran Abbas gave a comprehensive presentation on surgical management of obesity through video links.

At the end, the participants appreciated the great initiative taken by the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences and wished to organize more such events in the future.

Dera ismail khan: Chairman Board of Directors, Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC-D I Khan) Naimat Ullah Khan made a fervent appeal for public cooperation in maintaining and further improving the sanitary conditions in the city.

He expressed these words during the meeting held here.

A detailed review of the cleanliness operation and complaint management system was done in the meeting.

During the meeting, Chairman Board of Directors WSSC-D I Khan Naimat Ullah Khan instructed to strictly implement all cleanliness schedules.

Instructions to involve public representatives in all cleanliness operations were also issued. The process of cleaning sewer lines should be accelerated so that drainage problems can be resolved immediately.

The Chairman directed all sanitary inspectors to ensure the quality of cleanliness within their limits and immediate action should be taken on complaints received from the public. He further directed to conduct regular field visits to assess the ground realities and ensure prompt resolution of issues.

He emphasised the need for public participation to make cleanliness a mass movement.

He called on officials to involve citizens, prominent personalities, elected representatives and religious leaders to make cleanliness a collective effort.

Meanwhile, the officials of WSSC-D I Khan hold meetings with the elected representatives of various village and neighbourhood councils and discuss the cleanliness operations.

During the meetings, company officials and public representatives agreed that the responsibility for cleanliness would now be based at the village and neighbourhood council level instead of the union council.

Sanghar: The Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) has taken a crucial step toward enhancing emergency response and disaster preparedness in the Sanghar district by distributing emergency response and early warning kits to Disaster Management Committees (DDRC) in three Union Councils: Jam Jani, Jamrao84, and Tilla Shah of Taluka Jam Nawaz Ali of District Sanghar , Sindh .

This initiative is part of SCF's ongoing efforts to enhance the community's capacity to mitigate the impact of future disasters under the Livelihood Recovery and Disaster Resilience project in flood-affected communities in Sanghar, Sindh.

The distribution event was attended by prominent officials, including Javed Hussain, Executive Director of SCF; Sabir Hussain, Focal Person of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and Early Warning Sanghar; Ghulam Reza, from Solidar Suisse, Irshad Ahmed and Abdul Lateef Soomro, SCF staff members and more than 70 participants of the communities' members of UC based Community Based Disaster Management Committees. The emergency kits were handed over to the key representatives from each UCBDRM.

Speaking at the event, Javed Hussain emphasized the pressing challenges of climate change, particularly the devastating floods that have impacted Sanghar. Highlighting the slow recovery process from the 2022 floods, he said strengthening the capacity of communities in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and early warning systems is essential. If communities are well-prepared, future losses can be minimized.

Abdul Lateef Soomro, an SCF staff member, explained that the distribution of these kits is part of a comprehensive recovery plan. SCF has trained 75 activists from the three Union Councils in disaster management, equipping them with the skills and resources to handle potential crises effectively.

Ghulam Reza from Solidar Suisse was of the view that disasters are widespread and the community response mechanisms are essential to address future climate change issues.

The emergency response kit consists of supplies such as jerry cans, searchlights, megaphones, fiberglass extension ladders, tarpaulin sheets, wheel barrows, electrical tool kits, dewatering pumps, and first aid kits. These tools enable swift and effective disaster response, ensuring the safety of lives and livelihoods in affected areas.

Sabir Hussain, representing the DDMA district Sanghar, praised SCF's efforts and stated that these actions will enable the committees to handle natural disasters better and reduce their negative impacts.

Community representative Bhangchand from the village of Nadeeram Bagri also shared his views that 'Such tools are very much needed in our community to respond efficiently to future disasters, especially heavy rainfall. These resources will help us manage such situations effectively.'

Peshawar: : An explosion caused by accumulated gas inside a house in Nowshera district on Sunday resulted in severe injuries to the parents and children.

According to rescue sources, the incident occurred in the Badarshi Isa Khel area of Nowshera, where a gas leak inside the house led to a massive explosion.

As a result, the parents and children suffered severe burns.

The explosion caused a fire that engulfed the entire room.

Upon receiving the information, rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and shifted the injured to the hospital.

Peshawar: : Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, expressed deep concern over the alleged attempted murder of a female journalist and her sisters here on Sunday.

He has directed police officials to report on the incident.

In a statement, Governor Kundi condemned the assault on Rani Andaleeb, a journalist affiliated with TNN, along with her sisters Salma Jahangir and Naheed Jahangir Assistant Media Manager Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.

He called the incident an "intolerable act of violence" and emphasized that the investigation should be carried out promptly.

He also urged that the individuals responsible for the attack be held accountable and given the appropriate punishment.

Meanwhile, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sardar Ahmad Khan Masti Khel, the elder brother of senior parliamentarian and MNA from Bhakkar, Sanaaullah Masti Khel.

In his condolence message, Governor Kundi prayed for the deceased's forgiveness, elevation of his status, and strength for the grieving family.

Multan: Customs Enforcement conducted an operation in Grain Market here on Sunday seized more than Rs 40 million worth of smuggled goods, which included imported cigarettes, shisha flavors and tobacco. According to Customs sources, 15 trucks carrying the illicit goods were taken into custody during the operation. Zero tolerance towards smuggling was being shown, sources added.
