Sialkot: A horticulture society consisting of female students and teachers was launched to beautify the landscape of Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS).

Before the oath-taking ceremony, the special guest Vice Chancellor GCWUS Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, the guest of honour Advisor Horticulture Society GCU Lahore Prof. Dr. Zaheeruddin Khan and Professor Dr. Faiza Sharif (Department of Environmental Sciences GC University Lahore) planted a sapling in the lawn.

At the beginning of the ceremony, female students of the society took the oath of their positions.

Addressing the ceremony, the guest of honor, Advisor Horticulture Society GCU Lahore, Professor Dr. Zaheeruddin Khan said that all the students should work with the teachers to make the landscape of their university beautiful He said that the Botany students should pay special attention to the care of plants along with their studies and inform their families and friends about this.

The special guest, Vice Chancellor GCWUS Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir said that this year, the campus will be showered with colors and fragrances in spring. Advisor Horticulture Society GCWUS Dr. Zahid Ali Butt thanked the Vice Chancellor, distinguished guests and all the students. She said that together we will work hard to beautify the landscape of the university according to the vision of the Vice Chancellor. At the end of the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, guests of honour and Pro Vice Chancellor GCWUS Prof. Dr. Zarrin Fatima distributed certificates among the organizers.

Rawalpindi: A training workshop to enhance the capacity of police investigation officers continued on second day Friday at the Rawalpindi Police Lines Headquarters.

Deputy District Public Prosecutor Rehman Shaukat Bhatti and Law Instructor Police College Sihala Muhammad Imran gave lectures to the investigation officers on the investigation of cases, including rape, child abuse, kidnapping, kidnapping for ransom and other cases.

The participants were sensitized to ways and means of solving high-profile cases and collecting evidence of crimes, and getting the accused punished. Lapses in investigations carried out by police officers were also pointed out.

The IOs were informed how the investigation could be conducted a coordinated and modern scientific manner.

According to a police spokesman, training workshops were being held to further improve the performance of investigation officers as an effective investigation played an important role in bringing the accused to justice and providing justice to the victim.

Peshawar: The Collector Sales Tax on Services, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (KPRA), Maqsood Hassan, visited the Regional Office North in Abbottabad on Friday to meet with the KPRA team and conduct review of overall revenue collection.

He was accompanied by KPRA Advisor for Tax Enforcement Fazal Amin Shah and Deputy Director Communication Sohail Raza Khattak.

Additional Collector KPRA North, Muhammad Abbas Khan, warmly welcomed the delegation. The Collector was given a comprehensive briefing on the revenue collection performance of the North Region.

During the briefing, the Collector reviewed sector-wise revenue data and inquired about the factors behind sudden fluctuations in revenue collection from certain sectors.

It was shared that the North Region has been assigned a revenue target of Rs. 3.1 billion for the financial year 2024-25. So far, the region has collected Rs. 2.05 billion, achieving 65% of the assigned target. The team expressed confidence in not only meeting the target but exceeding it by a significant margin.

The Collector lauded the efforts of the North Region team and emphasized the need for additional measures to enhance revenue collection in under-performing sectors.

'You have done a commendable job so far, and I am confident that you can achieve your annual target. However, you need to develop a robust plan and devise strategies to boost revenue collection in weaker sectors. This will ensure you surpass your target by a considerable margin,' he remarked.

He further urged the team to identify new avenues for revenue growth in the remaining period of the ongoing financial year.

The Advisor KPRA and the Collector directed the North Region team to focus on monitoring and enforcement drives, particularly in the hospitality sector, including restaurants, hotels, wedding halls, and guest houses. They also emphasized giving due attention to beauty parlours to improve revenue collection.

Muzaffargarh: A man allegedly killed his brother over a domestic issue in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed area on Friday.

According to Rescue officials,two sons of Ghulam Sadiq,resident of Chak 546/TDA had an altercation over a domestic issue.The dispute escalated and one brother opened fire and killed 24-year-old Abdul Hamid on the spot.

Upon getting information,the rescue team reached the spot and shifted the body to rural health center.

Saddar police launched investigation.

Rawalpindi: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting 10 operations managed to recover 174.616 kg drugs worth over Rs 38.4 million and arrested eight suspects, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Friday.

He informed that 1 kg hashish was recovered from two suspects arrested near a university on the service road in Rawalpindi.

The arrested suspect confessed to selling drugs to the students of different educational institutions.

116 grams weed was recovered from two parcels sent from the UK at a courier office in Rawalpindi.

6.8 kg ice drug hidden in ladies' clothes was recovered from a parcel sent to New Zealand through a courier office in Quetta.

90 kg hashish and 50 kg ice were recovered from an uninhabited area of Pasni in Balochistan.

9.6 kg hashish was recovered from a suspect rounded up near a hotel in Sohrab Goth, Karachi.

5 kg ice drug, 1.2 kg hashish and 500 grams heroin were recovered from the possession of an accused held near M-1 Motorway Islamabad.

4.8 kg opium was recovered from a vehicle intercepted near Chenab Toll Plaza G.T Road Gujrat and two accused were arrested during the operation.

2 kg hashish and 1.5 kg ice were recovered from the possession of an accused arrested near a petrol pump in Hyderabad Jamshoro.

1.1 kg heroin and 1 kg ice were recovered from an accused near Turkey Toll Plaza Jhelum.

Cases have been registered against the arrested accused under the Narcotics Control Act and further investigations are under process.

Multan: Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel displayed remarkable composure to rescue Pakistan's faltering innings on the opening day of the first Test against the West Indies, which began late due to fog.
