Lahore: Ramadan-ul-Mubarak is a time for compassion, generosity and solidarity, so the business community should play its part in easing the financial burden on people particularly low-income families.SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry's former president Iftikhar Ali Malik expressed these views through a media statement here Sunday, and urged traders and shopkeepers to sell daily-use items, edibles, groceries, garments and shoes at minimal profit margins during upcoming Ramadan.He said that reducing profit margins on essential items would not only benefit the public but also foster goodwill and trust. He stressed that such initiatives align with the spirit of Ramadan that encourages sharing and caring for the less fortunate.He also appealed to traders and retailers to avoid hoarding as it often leads to artificial inflation during this sacred month and Islam strictly forbids hoarding and profiteering.Malik also urged the government to monitor markets closely to ensure compliance with fair pricing policies. He hoped that the business community would respond positively to this call, demonstrating ethical responsibility and contributing to a more inclusive and compassionate society during Ramadan.

Lahore: The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) is driving environmental projects to tackle Lahore's rising smog and pollution, setting a benchmark for sustainable urban living.

During a Ravi Protection Rally on Sunday, RUDA media representatives Sher Afzal Butt and Bilal Shaheen reaffirmed their commitment to restoring nine forests along the River Ravi. Hundreds participated in the rally, which started from Istanbul Square and ended at the old Ravi Bridge, highlighting the significance of Ravi City.

RUDA is actively revitalising historic forests, including the 3,071-acre Rakh Jhoke Forest, with plans to plant millions of trees. Already, 200 acres have been afforested with 100,000 trees to support biodiversity, create wildlife habitats, and reduce carbon emissions. This large-scale effort aims to leave an enduring ecological legacy.

Bilal Shaheen highlighted RUDA's commitment to managing the Ravi River in a climate-friendly way, noting that river training works at the Ravi Siphon have been completed. The 7-kilometre Sapphire Bay project, costing billions, has reshaped the river's flow, with new embankments under construction to prevent flooding. Work on a barrage and afforestation of nine forests is in its final stages, while the Sapphire Bay Trade Centre is also progressing rapidly.

RUDA has initiated Lahore's largest 400-acre vegetable market at Kala Khatai Road and prepared feasibility studies for road networks along the riverbanks.

Speaking at the rally, journalist and activist Javed Chatha praised RUDA's vision for urban sustainability, transforming environmental challenges into assets through renewable energy solutions and green spaces. He highlighted how these initiatives not only combat pollution but also create long-term economic opportunities, improving Lahore's quality of life.

Lahore: The Faysal Bank Limited (FBL) in collaboration with Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP), organised the 1st Faysal Bank, SOP Unified Marathon 2025, here on Sunday.

The event was attended by people with disabilities of all ages, celebrities, government officials and citizens from different walks of life. The event has become Pakistan's leading platform for promoting the social inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs). This is for the first time that Special Olympics Pakistan has expanded the marathon to the provincial capital of Punjab. The expansion reflects the growing national commitment to inclusion and diversity, with Faysal Bank leading the way as the main sponsor.

Faysal Bank President and CEO Yousuf Hussain said that Lahore's vibrant atmosphere and sportsmanship provide the perfect backdrop for the Faysal Bank SOP Unified Marathon.

Special Olympics Pakistan Chairperson Ronak Lakhani said, 'We are grateful for Faysal Bank's unwavering support and partnership, which has made the Unified Marathon Lahore the first-ever such event.'

Lahore: Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, AKAMATSU Shuichi on Sunday inaugurated the Sogetsu Ikebana Spring Exhibition highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan and its connection to Japan through the flower arrangements.

The exhibition , organized by the Sogetsu Lahore Study Group, showcases the work of Sogetsu Ikebana artists who have drawn inspiration from these ancient civilizations, capturing their essence in unique and evocative floral arrangements. The flower arrangements not only demonstrate the artists' skill but also tell stories, linking the past with the present and fostering a deeper understanding of these historical influences.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ambassador AKAMATSU Shuichi expressed his delight to see the exhibition with such an evocative theme 'Gandhara, Taxila, and Mehrgarh Civilizations'. As these names, he said, are important in Pakistan, Japan, and worldwide, showing the rich history and culture that has thrived here for thousands of years.

Appreciating the beautiful Sogetsu exhibition, the Ambassador said he was deeply impressed the way these artists have drawn inspiration, from ancient civilizations and capturing their essence in delicate flower arrangements. 'These arrangements aren't just beautiful; they tell stories, linking the past with the present', he further added.

The Ambassador said this Ikebana exhibition and other cultural events strengthen the bond and understanding between Japan and Pakistan, promoting peace, harmony, and respect through art. He also expressed his gratitude to Lahore Sogetsu Study Group for their invaluable assistance with the beautiful Ikebana arrangements for the Japan's National Day celebration in Islamabad that added a special touch to the occasion.

The Ambassador also congratulated the Lahore Sogetsu Study Group for receiving the Japanese Ambassador's Commendation in 2024, saying this award testifies their significant contributions in promoting Japanese culture in Pakistan especially in Lahore.

Neveen Syed, Director of the Sogetsu Lahore Study Group, expressed her gratitude to Blue Pine Serviced Residencies and all participating artists for their contributions in arranging this fascinating exhibition.

Lahore: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) organised a guided tour on Sunday, offering participants a rare glimpse into the architectural and cultural heritage of Androon Lahore's historic havelis.

The tour featured some of Lahore's most iconic mansions, including Mubarik Haveli, the grand Haveli Wajid Ali Shah, and the Noori Building, along with Haveli Nau Nehal Singh, a striking example of Sikh-era architecture. Visitors also explored Naqsh Art School, a hub for traditional arts, and enjoyed an exclusive visit to the Fakir Khana Museum, home to rare artifacts and paintings. Other highlights included Haveli Awais Mir, the majestic Haveli Barood Khana, and a lively Rangeela Rickshaw Ride through the bustling Walled City streets.

WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari highlighted the importance of preserving these historical treasures. 'The havelis of Androon Lahore reflect our city's rich cultural and architectural legacy. This tour aims to revive interest in these heritage sites and allow people to experience Lahore's grandeur firsthand.'

Around 100 participants joined the tour, which offered a captivating blend of history, architecture, and culture-an enriching experience for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and travelers seeking an authentic glimpse into Lahore's storied past.

Lahore: Punjab Minister for Health and Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique expressed deep sorrow over the death of Rescue and Safety Officer Yasir Raza in an accident.

In a statement issued on Sunday, he extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. "May Allah Almighty elevate the ranks of Yasir Raza and grant patience to his family," he said.

He acknowledged the dedication of rescue personnel, emphasising his tireless efforts in serving the public round the clock. "In this time of sorrow, we stand with the family of Yasir Raza. May Allah Almighty accept the services of the rescuers," he added.
