Lahore: Lahore Divisional Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood chaired a video link meeting to assess arrangements for Ramazan Bazaars, sugar sale points, anti-encroachment operations, and other key initiatives.

During the briefing, it was revealed that Lahore will have 18 sugar sale points, with all necessary preparations completed. Additionally, 10 model Ramazan Bazaars will be set up, with administrative arrangements in the final stages. Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood directed that cleanliness in Ramazan Bazaars must not be compromised. He emphasized that municipal arrangements for these bazaars have been scheduled at the district level across the division.

Highlighting the Punjab Chief Minister's priorities, he stressed that cleanliness, the removal of encroachments, and urban beautification must be ensured. He instructed officials to improve public services while keeping key performance indicators in focus.

The Commissioner Lahore was also given a comprehensive briefing on the ongoing anti-encroachment operations in all districts.

The meeting was attended via video link by Additional Commissioner Abdul Salam Arif, DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, DC Nankana Muhammad Tasleem Rao, ADC Kasur Rana Musa, and DC Sheikhupura Shahid Imran Marth.

Lahore: A 158 runs partnership for the third wicket between Ben Duckett and Joe Root was vital in driving England to a mammoth total and setting Australia a target of 352 runs in the fourth match of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Saturday evening.

Ben Ducket 165 off 143 - the highest individual score of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 so far - was the mainstay of the England innings and played the sheet anchor role to take his team to a total past 300 runs in a crucial match to take ascendency in Group B.

Ben Ducket and Joe Root got together when England lost two wickets in quick succession with the total at 43 in 5.2 overs after they were asked to bat first by Australia who won the toss. Phil Salt and Jamie Smith played identical quick knocks but fell cheaply to Ben Dwarshuis. Phil Salt scored 10 off six ball including a boundary and a six while Jamie Smith hit three boundaries in an innings of 15 runs off 13 balls.

Duckett and Root steadied the England innings from the early scare and took their ship to safe waters with a big partnership of 158 runs off 154 balls before Joe Roof fell for 68 off 78 balls. His innings was marked by caution as he hit only four boundaries and helped England gain dominance.

Ben Duckett scored his 50 off 49 balls while Joes Root hit fifty of 56 balls while they reached the hundred runs partnership in 96 balls. Duckett brought the 100 runs partnership with back-to-back 4s off Zampa on the last two balls of the 21st over of the England innings.

The lean patch with Harry Brook continued in the Champions Trophy as he could score only 3 (6) runs before he misread a Zampa leg-break and gave Carey the third consecutive catch of the innings at point. No other English batter could make a major contribution as Jos Buttler 23 (21), Liam Livingstone 14 (17) and Brydon Carse 8 (7) were the other contributors. Jofra Archer 21 (10) and Adil Rashid 1 (1) remained unbeaten.

The bowlers toiled on the batting friendly, somewhat, placid Gaddafi stadium pitch as Australia used seven bowlers. If there was any juice left in the soil, it was exploited by Dwarshuis while the rest was blown away by the benevolent February Sun on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

It rained in Lahore on Thursday and the decision to field first by Australian captain Steve Smith might have been tempted by the comparatively low temperatures over the past two days in Lahore. The spin-bowling quartet of Zampa, Maxwell, Livingstone and Short bagged five wickets among them with Adama Zampa and Livingstone claiming a brace. Maxwell conceded 58 runs for one wicket in seven overs.

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday taken a significant step toward enhancing the province's healthcare system with the announcement of the 'Maryam Nawaz Community Health Services'.

The initiative aims to address key health challenges in Punjab and will oversee 19 critical health

sector tasks while streamlining the management of health-related issues across the province. Chairing a meeting on health services in Punjab here, the CM emphasized, "The 'Maryam Nawaz Community Health Services' will complete 19 crucial tasks, including a comprehensive approach to health-related matters." She further revealed that 20,000 additional health inspectors would be hired through outsourcing to bolster the services' reach across Punjab.

She called for a detailed and immediate plan to implement the programme. A main feature of the initiative is the integration of the existing Lady Health Worker Programme, with 39,000 lady health workers joining the workforce. The overall workforce of the 'Maryam Nawaz Community Health Services' will exceed 60,000 professionals, ensuring a robust healthcare network for the province.

CM Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the new services will also be responsible for the administration of polio and other vaccination programmes, and will ensure the maintenance of accurate patient records. She underscored that a complete mapping of community health services would be carried out under her leadership.

Earlier, the CM was briefed that 47 per cent of the population is covered by the current health services, while 53 per cent of them are uncovered. The meeting was informed that 93 per cent of the patients are satisfied with the government's reforms related to health services.

He expressed these views while addressing the first ever alumni dinner organized by Punjab University Alumni Office at Hailey College of Commerce's lawn.

On this occasion, PU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Senior Vice President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Engr. Khalid Usman, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, Director PU Alumni Office Prof Dr Hamid Saeed, PU ASA President Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, faculty members and a large number of former students of PU were present.

In his address, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that our alumni are spread all over the world and are holding excellent positions and with their help and involvement, PU will move forward. He said that he will do whatever he can as VC to restore the glory of PU. He said, 'We are opening the research labs and services established in PU to all the universities of Lahore.' He said that the PU Library can also be used by the students of all the universities in Lahore. He said that being the VC of a great alma mater, he will try to bring such a transport system in collaboration with other universities of Lahore that all the students can benefit from it. He said that there are alumni in many institutions who are ready to provide funds at a call. He said that efforts will be made to conduct the annual meeting of PU alumni next year by elected office bearers. 'We all have to put aside the bitterness, mistakes, shortcomings and differences of the past and work together to make PU one of the best universities in the world.' He said 'We will strengthen the PU Alumni Office so that the university can benefit from it.' He said that one of our alumni has promised to construct a building in the Law College. He said that he is grateful to Nawab Sadiq Abbasi who donated the land of Old Campus, and Sir Ganga Ram for donating Hailey College of Banking and Finance to PU. He praised the Alumni Office for organizing a fruitful ceremony.

Engr. Khalid Usman said that PU has provided Pakistan with the best human resource. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce is ready to work with PU to revive Pakistan's economy. He said that the Pakistani nation has high hopes from businessmen for the improvement of the country's conditions. He said that they will promote research projects in collaboration with PU to benefit 45,000 businesses registered with the LCCI.

Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the love we have for our institution is unmatched. He said that even though our graduates are young, they still show their childhood. He said that the seed sown by the alumni last year has become a sapling under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali, which we will all make into a tree together.

Lahore: Under the directives of Additional IG Traffic Mirza Farhan Baig, strict enforcement of traffic laws and swift issuance of driving licences continues across Punjab.

According to a spokesperson, more than 30,000 citizens availed licensing facilities in the last 24 hours. Out of these, 10,300 individuals obtained learner licences, 11,300 received regular driving licences, and 8,100 renewed their licences.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Traffic Police took strict action against traffic violators, issuing 29,800 challans in a single day. The violations included: 2,274 challans for lane violations,3700 challans for driving without a licence, 2,800 challans for motorcyclists without helmets, 1,636 challans for not wearing seatbelts, 1,716 challans for unregistered vehicles and 7,000 challans for other serious traffic violations.

Mirza Farhan Baig emphasized the importance of following traffic laws, stating, "Observing traffic rules is a national responsibility, and zero tolerance will be maintained against violators across the province."

He urged citizens to avoid legal action and heavy fines by adhering to traffic regulations and obtaining their licences through service centers, licensing centers, and the online licensing portal.
