Islamabad: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar Monday urged legislation on LPG cylinders, advised citizens against using old or unauthorized cylinders due to safety risks and called on private companies to cooperate with the government in promoting the use of authorized cylinders.
While speaking to a private news channel, the LPG Association Chairman expressed serious concern over the unauthorized sale of LPG cylinders and the illegal refilling of old and substandard cylinders, terming the practice extremely dangerous for public safety.
He warned private shops involved in such activities to immediately comply with safety standards and urged the government to introduce strong laws along with strict implementation to curb these illegal practices and prevent loss of lives and property.
The Chairman further stated that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has already presented a bill, which is expected to be implemented soon, emphasizing that such measures are the need of the hour in view of the daily rise in LPG cylinder blast incidents across the country.
He further said that there is a dire need for strict laws, adding that under the proposed bill currently under process, violators will face severe punishments and heavy fines to ensure compliance and enhance public safety.
He advised citizens to avoid using old or unauthorized LPG cylinders, to purchase only government-approved cylinders, and to remain vigilant about safety measures to protect themselves and their families.
