Quetta: Chief Minister (CM) Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti held a meeting with World Food Programme (WFP) Pakistan Country Director Anita Harsh in Quetta, where both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation to eliminate malnutrition, improve food security and expand ongoing WFP projects in the province.
During the meeting, the current food situation in Balochistan, ongoing WFP initiatives, and future strategies were reviewed. Discussions focused on joint measures to combat malnutrition, ensure quality nutrition for women and children, and make collaborative efforts more effective.
The CM emphasized that malnutrition is a serious challenge in Balochistan, requiring coordinated and collective action by the government, international organizations, and stakeholders. He noted that the provincial government is taking effective steps to address food insecurity and values the support of global institutions in this regard.
Sarfraz Bugti highlighted that providing adequate and quality nutrition to women and children is vital for building a healthy and strong society. He stressed that malnutrition directly impacts human health, child growth, and overall human development, making long-term and sustainable measures indispensable.
He assured WFP of the provincial government’s full cooperation in ongoing projects and expressed readiness to expand the scope of collaboration. He added that the government will further strengthen partnerships with international organizations in food security and human development to ensure better nutrition facilities for the people, especially women and children.
The meeting also discussed WFP’s ongoing efforts in Balochistan and future programs aimed at improving food security and combating malnutrition.
