Step afoot to ensure welfare of children with special needs: DG Saifullah

Quetta: Director General (DG) of Social Welfare Balochistan Mir Saifullah Khan Khetran on Wednesday said that children with special needs are not a burden on society but rather a source of strength, potential, and a national asset, encouraging and supporting them is a collective responsibility shared by the government and society at large.

He said that by demonstrating their prowess in the sports arena, these children have proven that given the right opportunities, facilities, and encouragement, they could bring honor to the country and the province at both national and international levels.

He expressed these views while visiting the Deaf Reach School in Quetta and interacting with the various sports teams of children with special needs who represented Balochistan in the All-Pakistan Special Children Sports Competitions.

On this occasion, the courageous and talented children from Balochistan displayed outstanding performance across various sports, securing top positions and winning medals, shields, and t
rophies, thereby bringing distinction to the province at the national level.

Director General of Social Welfare Mir Saifullah Khan Khetran congratulated the successful athletes and distributed medals, shields, and trophies among them.

Paying tribute to the talents, hard work, determination, and spirit of children with special needs, he said that these champions from Balochistan have proven through their success that, given the right resolve and courage, no obstacle could stand in the way of achievement. He remarked that these children are a source of pride for us, and their accomplishments bring honour to the entire province of Balochistan.

He emphasized that children with special needs require not merely sympathy, but equal opportunities, confidence, education, training, sports facilities, and avenues for advancement in practical life.

He said that the Social Welfare Department of Balochistan is undertaking various initiatives to ensure the welfare and rights of persons with special needs and to integrat
e them into society as active, empowered individuals.

The Director General of Social Welfare noted that sports serve as an excellent medium for fostering not only physical health but also self-confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership qualities among children with special needs.

He said that the Social Welfare Department would continue its efforts to showcase the talents of these children and individuals across various fields including sports and to provide them with further opportunities.

Mr Khetran stated that the success achieved by these children today transcends mere medals or trophies; it conveys a positive message to society that talent is not bound by physical limitations.

‘If provided with a supportive environment, guidance, and necessary facilities, children with special needs could excel in every walk of life’, he said.

Mir Saifullah Khan Khetran also extended his congratulations and appreciation to the parents, teachers, coaches, and organizers, acknowledging that the unwavering hard w
ork, training, and encouragement provided by parents and teachers played a pivotal role in the children’s success.

He paid tribute to these spirited champions from Balochistan who, through their hard work and talent on the sports field, have held the province’s flag high; your success is not merely your own, it is a source of pride for every citizen of Balochistan.

The Director General assured the successful athletes that the Balochistan Social Welfare Department would continue to support and encourage them and that every possible measure would be taken to further showcase the talents of persons with special needs.
