Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani visited Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium to review arrangements for the first T20 international match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance of providing spectators with a safe, secure and enjoyable environment.
During his visit, the commissioner assessed preparations for the high-profile cricket fixture and reviewed measures taken by the relevant departments to ensure the smooth conduct of the match. Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Additional Commissioner Revenue, City Police Officer (CPO), Assistant Commissioner City, Assistant Commissioner Cant and other concerned officials were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Salman Ghani expressed satisfaction over Pakistan’s successful hosting of international cricket matches, saying such events offered more than sporting entertainment. He said international cricket played an important role in projecting Pakistan as a peaceful country and strengthening its positive image across the world.
He stressed that comprehensive security arrangements had been put in place to ensure the safe and successful conduct of the matches. He added that spectators were the primary stakeholders in these events and that all arrangements should be focused on facilitating the public and providing them with a pleasant experience.
The commissioner directed the traffic police to deploy additional personnel along alternative routes during the match to maintain a smooth flow of traffic and minimize inconvenience to commuters. He underscored the need for effective coordination among all relevant departments to manage the movement of spectators and ensure that routine activities in the city were not unnecessarily disrupted.
He said all concerned departments were working collectively to provide citizens with a peaceful and secure atmosphere, particularly during international cricket matches. He added that coordinated efforts by the administration, police and other agencies were essential to ensuring that sporting events proceeded smoothly and that visitors and local residents faced minimum inconvenience.
Salman Ghani also called upon citizens to play their part in maintaining law and order by cooperating with the authorities and relevant departments. He urged the public to observe discipline, fulfil their social responsibilities and follow official instructions to prevent any untoward incident.
He said the successful organization of international sporting events depended not only on administrative preparedness and security measures but also on responsible public participation, adding that cooperation between citizens and authorities was vital to ensuring a safe, peaceful and memorable cricketing experience.
