Cop martyred fighting dacoit laid to rest


Dg khan: A Police constable, martyred in an encounter with notorious dacoit, was laid to rest with full official honours at a funeral held at Police Lines, Dera Ghazi Khan. A smartly turned-out contingent of Punjab Police presented a guard of salute to the slain officer Muhammad Shezad. RPO DG Khan Muhammad Azhar Ikraam, RPO CCD Jahandad Akram, senior police and administration officials, heads of security agencies, representatives of the bar association and media, along with police personnel, the martyr’s family and a large number of political and social figures, attended the funeral prayer.



Senior officers laid a flower-covered sheet over the coffin, draped in the national flag, and offered prayers for the departed soul. RPO Muhammad Azhar Ikram met the bereaved family, offering condolences and paying rich tribute to the slain officer. He said the martyr’s blood would not go in vain, adding that police had made sacrifices for peace in the past and would not shy away from further sacrifices in future. He assured that the force would take full responsibility for the welfare of the martyr’s family.



Following the funeral prayer at Police Lines, the body was dispatched to the officer’s native area with full state honours, where he will be laid to rest. Constable Muhammad Shahzad Aziz was injured while bravely confronting notorious dacoit Akbar Khosa and later succumbed to his wounds.
