Faisalabad: Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has launched a strict revenue recovery drive by directing its officials to expand the agency’s commercial consumer base and meet assigned collection targets.
Presiding over a meeting, Managing Director WASA Saqib Raza warned that revenue officers who fail to deliver would face replacement and possible withdrawal of their incentives.
He said that the number of registered commercial consumers within WASA jurisdiction remained far below the actual potential. He directed WASA officials to identify and register more commercial connections to broaden revenue base of the agency.
He ordered that lists of revenue officers failing to achieve their assigned recovery targets be prepared so that their incentives and other facilities could be withdrawn. He said that performance would be assessed against clearly defined recovery targets and officials would be held responsible for shortfalls.
He said that strengthening revenue collection was essential for improving WASA’s financial position and enabling the agency to provide better water supply and drainage services to citizens.
He also directed that developers of all private housing colonies be informed that septic tanks must be constructed for every house in their respective schemes.
Recharge wells would also be made mandatory in parks to promote groundwater replenishment and improve water management, he added.
He further ordered strict monitoring of housing colonies that had obtained installment arrangements for payment of outstanding dues.
Those complying with their committed payment schedules should be allowed to continue under the agreed arrangements while action should be initiated against defaulters, including cancellation of their No Objection Certificates (NOCs), where warranted, he added.
He directed the relevant officials to issue show-cause notices to industrial units operating along Sargodha Road, with the objective of ensuring recovery of their monthly bills and regularization of their water and sewerage connections.
He stressed that industrial and commercial consumers could not be allowed to remain outside the formal revenue system while benefiting from WASA services. The relevant field staff must ensure that eligible consumers were properly assessed, billed and brought into the system, he added.
He said that an increase in revenue recovery would strengthen the agency financially and enable it to invest more effectively in improving water supply and sewerage facilities across Faisalabad.
He directed revenue and field formations to intensify monitoring and take timely action against non-compliant consumers, stressing that financial stability of the agency and its capacity to deliver quality civic services were directly linked to efficient revenue collection.
