Multan: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) continued its crackdown on elements involved in supplying meat from diseased animals. A PFA food safety team intercepted and inspected a vehicle transporting meat in the Dukota area of Mailsi. During the inspection, a sick cow was found concealed inside the vehicle. The animal was reportedly being transported for slaughter and subsequent supply to various meat shops.
A veterinary doctor examined the animal and declared its meat extremely hazardous to human health. Around 2.5 maunds of meat from the diseased cow was subsequently destroyed, while a case was registered against the supplier.
The Director General of the PFA said that strict action would be taken against those involved in supplying substandard and unsafe meat to citizens. He urged the public to report complaints regarding unsafe food through social media platforms or the PFA helpline 1223.
