Lahore:An anti-corruption court on Wednesday adjourned proceedings in a case against former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and others over alleged illegal appointments in the Punjab Assembly, as charges could not be framed due to the absence of some accused.
Former chief minister Parvez Elahi did not appear before the court due to illness. His lawyers filed an application seeking a one-day exemption from personal appearance, which the court accepted.
The court adjourned further proceedings until October 21. The court also sought arguments on the acquittal plea filed by co-accused Mukhtar Ranjha.
Anti-Corruption Court Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich conducted the hearing.
Former principal secretary to chief minister Muhammad Khan Bhatti appeared before the court, while other co-accused also attended the hearing and marked their attendance.
Parvez Elahi and the other accused are facing allegations of making appointments in the Punjab Assembly in violation of merit. The individuals who were allegedly appointed have also been nominated as co-accused in the case.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment has already submitted its challan (investigation report) before the court.
