Lahore: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi on Tuesday reviewed traffic arrangements for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, directing the officers to ensure accident-free roads and foolproof traffic management across the city.
The CTO reviewed the traffic arrangements for mega events planned for Independence Day, noting that fireworks displays were expected at six different locations, besides several rallies and other activities.
He said a large number of citizens from other districts were also expected to visit Lahore to celebrate Independence Day, making effective traffic management a top priority.
Shirazi directed the officers to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against traffic violations and categorically stated that one-wheeling, removing silencers to create noise, hooliganism and road blockades would not be tolerated.
He stated that 62 special checking points would be established in coordination with the district police to take strict action against hooligans and traffic violators.
The CTO said habitual wheelie riders and groups involved in road rage would also be dealt with strictly, adding that further stringent enforcement measures had been ordered to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
According to the comprehensive traffic plan, three SPs, 16 DSPs, 500 traffic inspectors, and more than 2, 000 traffic wardens would be deployed across Lahore on Independence Day.
The CTO directed the officers to ensure coordinated deployment and effective traffic regulation at all major event venues and routes to facilitate the citizens and maintain an uninterrupted traffic flow.
The meeting was attended by SSP City Zone Maqsood Loon, SSP Sadar Zone Hafiz Khizar Zaman, SP Headquarters Fakhar Bashir Raja, zonal SSPs, and circle officers.
