Lahore: One newly confirmed permanent judge and 10 newly appointed additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) took oath of office on Tuesday.
LHC Chief Justice Justice Aalia Neelum administered the oath to the judges in a ceremony held at judges’ common room.
Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa took oath as a permanent judge, while Justice Ghulam Sarwar Nihung, Justice Muhammad Ajmal Khan Zahid, Justice Amir Ajam Malik, Justice Shireen Imran, Justice Asad Ali Bajwa, Justice Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz, Justice Khalid Ibn-e-Aziz, Justice Munawar Iqbal Duggal, Justice Syed Farhad Ali Shah and Justice Muhammad Usman Ghani Rashid Cheema took oath as additional judges.
The solemn ceremony was attended by the LHC’s senior-most judge, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and other judges, along with the Punjab Advocate General, Prosecutor General, law officers, court officials, bar representatives, senior lawyers, and families of the newly appointed judges.
LHC Registrar Raja Qamaruz Zaman conducted the proceedings and read out the notifications regarding Justice Bajwa’s confirmation and the appointment of the 10 additional judges.
Following the appointments, the number of judges at the Lahore High Court has risen to 50.
