Rawalpindi: Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir on Tuesday reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to protecting the rights of religious minorities and promoting interfaith harmony.
Speaking at a ceremony held at his office to mark National Minorities Day, he said minorities were playing an important role in the development, prosperity and stability of Pakistan.
He said the Constitution guaranteed equal rights to all citizens without discrimination, adding that the government was taking all possible measures to protect the life and property, religious freedom and fundamental rights of minority communities.
He said National Minorities Day conveyed a message of interfaith harmony, tolerance, brotherhood and mutual respect.
He added that Rawalpindi had an exemplary atmosphere of harmony among followers of different faiths and the district administration would continue efforts to further strengthen peace and tolerance.
Representatives of the Christian community thanked the deputy commissioner for organising the ceremony and expressing solidarity with the minority community.
The ceremony concluded with cake-cutting and special prayers for the country’s development, prosperity, peace, security and interfaith harmony.
