Dera ismail khan: In a major law enforcement success, Dera Ismail Khan police have intercepted a large cache of weapons and ammunition being smuggled from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Balochistan, arresting a suspect and seizing the consignment before it could reach its destination.
District Police Officer (DPO) Sajad Ahmad Sahibzada said that intelligence received by the Saddar Circle police prompted swift action. Acting on the tip-off, SDPO Kashif Sattar and SHO Asghar Khan Wazir established a checkpoint and stopped a silver double-cabin vehicle (registration RE:314) traveling from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan.
During inspection, officers found a significant cache of weapons hidden in the vehicle’s secret compartments. The haul included three submachine guns, 39 pistols of 30 bore, five Mauser-type rifles of 30 bore, two M4 rifles, four 9mm pistols, 340 SMG magazines, and 16,430 assorted cartridges.
The vehicle’s driver and sole occupant, Hamidullah, son of Khan Faqir from District Mardan, was arrested, and the vehicle along with the seized weapons was taken into police custody.
Addressing the media, DPO Sahibzada said, ‘The recovered arms, valued at several lakh rupees, were destined for Balochistan. Thanks to timely intelligence and decisive action by our teams, a major smuggling attempt has been successfully foiled. We remain committed to curbing illegal arms movement across the region.’
A formal case has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
