HYDERABAD:The Deputy Inspector General of Hyderabad Range Police Tariq Razaq Dharejo has pledged to provide a crime-free environment to the business community while urging them to make efforts to enhance industrial production and trade activities in the city.
He was speaking at a reception hosted by the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) at its office here on Tuesday. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amjad Ahmed Sheikh accompanied the DIG on his visit.
The DIG asked the police liaison officer for HCCI to monitor issues of the business community and resolve them as well.
He credited SSP Shaikh for successfully handling the crime of kidnappings in his previous posting in Kashmore-Kandhkot district.
Dharejo said Hyderabad Range Police would take advantage of Shaikh’s expertise, expressing hope that the incidents of mobile snatching and motorbike lifting would be controlled.
He instructed the traffic police officials to improve traffic management in the commercial centers and to collaborate with the HCCI in that regard in order to facilitate the movement of customers.
The DIG asked the traffic police to scale up patrolling in the business centers.SSP said he wished to make Hyderabad a model city vis-a-vis the law and order.
The HCCI’s President Adeel Siddiqui welcomed DIG and SSP Hyderabad and assured them of full cooperation of the chamber.
He briefed that the economic crisis and inflation had caused a drop in the number of industrial units in the Hyderabad SITE area where previously around 600 big and small industries existed.
Siddiqui said if the law and order situation did not improve then the retail sector would also face immense financial losses because of a drop in investor confidence. The HCCI’s President said the textile mills, glass bangle industry and motorcycle assembling industries were facing a decline in business.
He said Hyderabad-based wholesale markets were the supply chain of the markets and bazaars for the rest of Sindh.
Siddiqui acknowledged that the police respected the business community but motorcycle lifting and mobile snatching incidents were frequently occurring.
He emphasized that the police should take action against the outlaws more proactively besides urging the business community to install the close circuit television cameras to help police control the crimes.
The HCCI’s patron Mohammad Ikram Rajput and Najmuddin Qureshi also expressed their views.
