District Emergency Operations Center set up in Lasbela to deal natural disasters


Quetta: On Special directive of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, a District Emergency Operations Center (DEOC) has been established in Lasbela to deal with natural disasters and weather hazards.



The center was inaugurated on Friday by Azat Foundation in collaboration with the district administration and with the assistance of the United Nations World Food Programme (UN-WFP).



The objective of establishing the District Emergency Operations Center is to ensure continuous monitoring of weather conditions, timely identification of potential hazards, effective early warning system and prompt dissemination of emergency information.



The center has been connected to an automatic weather station, through which information related to weather changes and potential hazards could be obtained in a timely manner.



Deputy Commissioner Lasbela Humaira Baloch, representatives of UN-WFP, Azat Foundation, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), representatives of various government departments, non-governmental organizations and local community participated on this occasion.



Addressing the ceremony, the DC Lasbela said that the establishment of the District Emergency Operations Center is an important step in reducing the risks of natural disasters in the district and protecting the public.



She said that an effective early warning system would help in informing the relevant institutions and the public in a timely manner before potential hazards.



She said that effective communication and timely exchange of information between different departments in an emergency situation plays a key role in reducing the loss of life and property.



The activation of the DEOC would make the communication and coordinated action of institutions more effective in emergency situations.



The participants of the ceremony expressed their determination that by using the District Emergency Operations Center actively and effectively, dealing with natural disasters and weather emergencies, issuing timely warnings, and public safety measures in Lasbela would be further improved.
