Employees union urges HWandSC’s CEO to seek bailout package

Hyderabad: The Mehran Workers Union of Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation (HWandSC) has written a letter to the corporation’s Chief Executive Officer Tufail Abro, urging him to approach the Sindh Government for a bailout package.

Muhammad Aslam Abbassi, the union’s General Secretary, in a letter addressed to the CEO here on Monday lamented that the corporation had defaulted payment of 20 months salaries and pensions to the workforce.

According to him, the retirement funds of the former employees who retired between 2022 to 2026 had also not been released.

He underlined that as per the HWandSC Act, 2023, the corporation could require and obtain funds from the provincial government.

Abbassi also pointed out that salary and pensions were a part of essential expenditures of the corporation which could not be stopped.

He raised questions over performance of the HWandSC’s top 4 officers ranking after the CEO.

He also urged Abro to direct the corporation’s secretary to call a meeting of the HWandSC’s board of directors so that they could resolve the issue of unpaid salaries, pensions and retirement funds.

Abbassi said the Sindh Government’s annual grant of Rs350 million was insufficient to pay salaries, pensions and retirement funds, and that the same should be enhanced in view of the financial requirements.
