District

Attock: The Food Department has foiled an attempt to smuggle nearly 28 tons of flour from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, recovering the flour from four heavy vehicles intercepted at the Ghazi Interchange on the GT Road.

Food Department teams stopped four large vehicles at the Ghazi Interchange and recovered approximately 28 tons of flour that was allegedly being transported illegally to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reported by reporter correspondent.

District Food Controller (DFC) Attock said all the recovered flour had been shifted to government warehouses. Deputy Director Food Attock Shams Abbas said the recovered flour would be sold to the public through markets at official government rates.

He said quality and affordable flour was available in sufficient quantities in the markets and was easily accessible to the public.

Legal action would be taken against the mill owners allegedly involved in the smuggling, he added. The Director Food said surveillance had been further tightened in Punjab’s border areas, particularly at check posts, while CCTV cameras were also being used for monitoring.

He said all available resources would be utilized to prevent the illegal transportation of wheat and flour to other provinces.

He further said strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the smuggling and no one would be given any concession.

The law was equal for everyone, whether the individuals involved belonged to the private sector or the department.
