Islamabad: Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) on Wednesday announced that the bodies of four climbers who lost their lives on Broad Peak have been successfully recovered and brought to the Broad Peak Base Camp following one of the most technically demanding recovery operations in the Karakoram.
According to an official statement issued by the ACP, the recovered climbers have been identified as renowned Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal Purja (Nims Dai), Zhong Wang, Nima Sherpa, and Kilu Sherpa.
The club said the complex operation was carried out under extremely challenging high-altitude conditions by a joint team of experienced Pakistani and Nepali rescuers.
The ACP expressed its gratitude to the rescue personnel, including Mingma G., Sirbaz Khan, Abid Beg, Sherbaz, Dipen Gurung, Pemba Chhewang Sherpa, as well as the dedicated Pakistani and Nepali recovery teams. It also acknowledged the support of the Pakistan Army, the Government of Pakistan, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, local authorities, the British High Commission, and the Embassy of Nepal for their invaluable assistance throughout the mission.
The Alpine Club of Pakistan extended its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased climbers.
The statement added that three climbers are still missing, and every possible effort will continue to locate and recover them whenever weather and mountain conditions permit.
