Hyderabad: The Akhlaque Ahmed Khan (AAK) Scholarship Committee of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam approved a Master’s merit scholarship for a student of the Department of Agricultural Economics and distributed four scholarship cheques under the HYKAZ Amanat Education Support Program during a meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal.
The meeting was attended by Dean Dr. Aijaz Ali Koonharo, Registrar Ghulam Mohiuddin Qureshi, Dr. Qazi Suleman Memon, Director planning and Development Muhammad Ashraf Rustmani, Dr. Habibullah Magsi, Deputy Director Finance Taimur Qazi, In-charge Director University Advancement and Financial Assistance Dr. Ghulam Hussain Waggan and Shehzad Essani.
The meeting reviewed matters relating to student scholarships, endowment fund investment and the expansion of financial assistance initiatives for deserving students.
The committee approved the AAK Master’s Merit Scholarship for Imamuddin, a student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was selected from among six candidates through the prescribed merit-based selection procedure. The scholarship will be awarded for up to 24 months, carrying a monthly stipend of Rs. 12,000.
The committee also approved an increase in the AAK Endowment Fund investment from Rs. 2.5 million to Rs. 3 million, with the amount to be invested in a private bank for a period of one year.
To ensure timely financial support for postgraduate students, the committee directed that the 2026 Master’s Scholarship process be initiated on a priority basis. It was further decided that Terms of Reference (TORs) would be prepared for establishing SAU’s own Endowment Fund to provide sustainable scholarship support to students from the 2027 batch onward.
During the meeting, four scholarship cheques under the HYKAZ Amanat Education Support Program, funded by Prof. Dr. Qazi Suleman Memon, were distributed among students of the Faculty of Crop Production. The recipients included Rashid Ali, Khalid Ali, Muhammad Waris and Sajjad Ali.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal said that scholarships play an important role in enabling talented and deserving students to continue their higher education and research without financial constraints. He emphasized that scholarship awards should be made through transparent, merit-based procedures, while sustainable endowment funds should be developed to ensure continued support for students in the years ahead.
Earlier, the committee paid tribute to the services of late Mr. Noman Shah, former Deputy Director, University Advancement and Financial Assistance (UAFA). The members acknowledged his contributions to the university and his role in supporting student financial assistance initiatives.
