Muzaffargarh: A public forum in Muzaffargarh called for reducing Pakistan’s dependence on imported fuel, promoting renewable energy and accelerating the transition towards clean and sustainable transportation.
The forum, titled ‘Breaking Free from Imported Fuel, Ensuring Energy Security and Clean Mobility,’ was organized by the Social Youth Council of Patriots (SYCOP), a member of the Go Green Network, in collaboration with the Indus Consortium at Shah Muhammad Hall.
Speaking at the forum, MPA Aon Hamid Dogar endorsed the recommendations presented by the participants and stressed the need to promote indigenous and renewable energy resources to reduce reliance on imported fuels.
He supported introducing a special concessional financing policy by the State Bank of Pakistan for electric vehicles, electric retrofitting of two- and three-wheelers, expanding clean mobility opportunities for youth, particularly women, and developing renewable energy-powered charging infrastructure.
The MPA also supported recommendations for reducing dependence on RLNG-based power generation, expanding solar and wind power, developing battery storage systems and modernizing the national grid.
Aon Hamid Dogar assured the participants that he would raise the forum’s recommendations at relevant government forums and in parliament and play his role in advancing them at the policy level. He emphasized stronger cooperation among the government, parliament, civil society, private sector and citizens to promote energy conservation and clean mobility.
Head of Programmes SYCOP Kaleem Qaim Khani presented the objectives of the forum and highlighted key proposals concerning energy conservation, renewable energy investment, electric mobility, and reducing dependence on imported fuel.
Executive Director SYCOP Umm-e-Kulsoom Sial thanked MPA Aon Hamid Dogar, the Indus Consortium, speakers, participants, civil society representatives, media, and other supporters. She said public dialogue on energy conservation and clean mobility would continue and efforts would be made to convey the forum’s recommendations to relevant institutions.
General Secretary Trade Union South Punjab Muhammad Amir Saleem, District Coordinator DDMA Irfan Sial, Deputy Director Colleges Abdul Rehman, social activist Asif Riaz Butt, District Coordinator NCHD Inam Bari, Sanjh Foundation President Nazim Baloch, Aamir Dogar of Rohi Channel, Muhammad Aslam of Rescue 1122, Professor Umair Ghani Bhatti and social activist Imtiaz Karim also spoke at the forum.
Representatives of civil society, social organizations and various sectors attended the public forum.
