Astore: Caretaker Provincial Minister for Information and Information Technology, Gilgit-Baltistan, Ghulam Abbas, received a warm welcome from the local people upon his arrival in Skardu after taking oath of his office. Citizens expressed their happiness and congratulated the caretaker minister on assuming his new responsibilities.
Addressing a reception ceremony held at his residence on Friday, the caretaker minister said that holding transparent, free and fair elections was the fundamental responsibility of the government and all possible cooperation would be extended to the Election Commission in this regard. He said that he was well aware of the issues faced by the area and would play an effective role in resolving them.
Ghulam Abbas stated that a free, responsible and informed media was an important pillar of the democratic process in Gilgit-Baltistan. He expressed his commitment to work closely with local journalists for the promotion of information technology, improvement of digital facilities, and resolution of issues faced by journalists. He added that positive and constructive relations between the government and media would be strengthened so that public issues can be highlighted in a timely manner and resolved effectively.
Assistant Director Information Department Baltistan Division Kulsoom Zahra, senior journalist Ishaq Jalal, and other speakers also addressed the ceremony.
