Faisalabad: Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day with patriotic fervour, bringing together national pride, youth engagement and a renewed commitment to the country’s ideals.
The main ceremony was attended by Air Marshal (Retd) Farhat Hussain Khan HI(M), SBt, former Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force; MPAs Uzma Raja and Qudsia Batool; and CPO Faisalabad Tanveer Hussain as guests of honour. GCWUF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen was the chief guest.
The celebrations began with flag hoisting, followed by a police march-past, student tableaux, a patriotic poster exhibition and Independence Day cake cutting.
Addressing the gathering, Air Marshal (Retd) Farhat Hussain Khan said freedom carried the responsibility to think, learn and contribute meaningfully to the nation.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen said Independence Day was an occasion for celebration as well as self-reflection, urging youth to translate Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s principles of honesty, integrity and responsibility into action.
CPO Tanveer Hussain paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces and police martyrs and stressed the importance of unity and responsible citizenship.
Faculty, staff and a large number of students participated in the celebrations. The event concluded a week-long series of activities, including Quran Khawani, an Independence Day badminton match, poster exhibition and other patriotic programmes organised by the Directorate of Student Affairs in collaboration with academic departments, student societies and the Media Cell.
