FOSPAH launches mobile app for workplace harassment complaints

Islamabad: The Federal Ombudsman for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH) on Thursday launched a mobile application to facilitate registration of complaints against workplace harassment.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, while launching the application, said FOSPAH was a quasi-judicial forum where technology was being introduced to facilitate complainants.

Addressing the launching ceremony, the Minister said Pakistan’s development was closely linked with the participation of women in the country’s progress.

He said women working in offices could now use the mobile application to lodge complaints if they faced harassment at the workplace.

Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar said the application had been launched to bring FOSPAH in line with the pace of the modern era.

He said outdated social practices had previously restricted women from pursuing education and employment, adding that Islam did not prohibit women from acquiring education or working.

‘There is no example in the world where a country has achieved development by keeping half of its population confined to homes,’ he said.

The Minister said women should not be limited to traditional skills such as sewing and cooking but should also be equipped with education and other professional skills.

He said Pakistani women had demonstrated their capabilities in various fields, including information technology.

Earlier, FOSPAH Chairperson Fauzia Waqar said the Ministry of IT had played an important role in developing the mobile Complaint Management System.

She said women, men and transgender persons could approach FOSPAH to lodge complaints against harassment. She added that the Complaint Management System would make it easier to manage and process complaints.

Fauzia Waqar said the FOSPAH website had also been revamped, where all orders of the institution were made available.

She maintained that FOSPAH was functioning independently and without any pressure.
