Gomal Medical College holds orientation session for new doctors in collaboration with Royal College of Edinburgh


Dera ismail khan: Gomal Medical College (GMC), Dera Ismail Khan, in collaboration with the Royal College of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, organised a special orientation session titled “Top Tips for New Doctors” to prepare newly graduated doctors for their transition from medical school to clinical practice.



The session aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical clinical work by equipping young doctors with essential professional knowledge, practical guidance and confidence before the start of their medical careers.



Doctors based in the United Kingdom, who had recently completed their first Foundation Year training, shared their experiences with the participants through online and in-person interactions. They provided practical insights into the challenges of working in hospitals and offered advice on adapting to the clinical environment.



During the interactive session, speakers discussed key aspects of beginning clinical practice, including workplace logistics, effective time management, building and maintaining a professional portfolio, and achieving a healthy work-life balance. They also shared lessons learned from their early professional experiences and highlighted strategies for overcoming common challenges faced by newly qualified doctors.



The participants actively engaged in discussions and received practical guidance on developing the professional skills and confidence required for a successful transition into the healthcare workforce.



The college administration expressed gratitude to the Royal College of Edinburgh and all the guest speakers for their valuable contributions, stating that such international collaborations provide young medical professionals with global exposure and strengthen their professional development.
