Lahore: Pakistan and China are strengthening their longstanding strategic partnership by expanding cooperation in healthcare, science, technology, and innovation.
Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) Commercial Ambassador Adeel Munawar said here Monday that healthcare cooperation can play a vital role in promoting sustainable development, improving medical services, and creating new avenues for bilateral investment and trade.
He said, healthcare has significant potential to become a major pillar of Pakistan-China economic cooperation. He noted that China’s rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, digital healthcare, biotechnology, medical equipment, and medical research offer valuable opportunities for Pakistan to modernize its healthcare sector.
Pakistan can benefit from China’s technological expertise through joint ventures, research partnerships, technology transfer, and investment in modern healthcare infrastructure. He stressed that the focus should be on converting strong Pakistan-China relationship into practical, commercially viable projects that create sustainable benefits for both countries.
Adeel Munawar highlighted the potential of digital technologies to improve healthcare access, particularly in remote and underserved areas of Pakistan. He identified telemedicine, AI-based diagnostics, digital health platforms, smart hospitals, and remote medical consultations as promising areas for greater bilateral cooperation.
He observed that China’s experience in using technology and innovation to transform healthcare delivery provides valuable opportunities for Pakistan. Stronger partnerships among hospitals, universities, research institutions, technology companies, and healthcare professionals can accelerate knowledge transfer, capacity building, and innovation in the country. He emphasized the growing commercial potential of Pakistan-China cooperation in the healthcare sector, identifying medical equipment manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, healthcare information technology, biotechnology, hospital management, and advanced medical technologies as areas offering considerable opportunities for Chinese investment and Pakistani-Chinese joint ventures.
‘Healthcare cooperation should move beyond traditional institutional engagement toward commercially sustainable partnerships. Chinese companies can contribute advanced technology, expertise, investment, and international best practices, while Pakistani businesses can provide local market knowledge, distribution networks, skilled human resources, and access to a growing healthcare market,’ he said.
He further highlighted the importance of strengthening linkages between medical universities, hospitals, research centers, and healthcare professionals in Pakistan and China. Cooperation in telemedicine, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, medical research, and advanced healthcare technologies can contribute significantly toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3, focused on good health and well-being.
