Multan: The proposed relocation of two vital departments from Nishtar Hospital 1 to Nishtar Hospital 2 in Multan has sparked widespread outrage among medical professionals and the local press.
The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has vehemently opposed the government’s decision, citing the potential negative impact on patient care.
Nishtar Hospital 1, a longstanding healthcare facility serving millions across southern Punjab and beyond, is set to lose its neurosurgery and orthopedic departments. Medical experts argue that this move is illogical and will significantly inconvenience patients seeking specialized treatment.
Dr. Masood-ur-Rauf Haraj, president of the PMA Multan, expressed deep concern over the decision, stating, “This is a clear attempt to undermine the quality of healthcare provided at Nishtar Hospital 1. We cannot allow our patients to suffer due to such short-sighted policies.”, he added.
However, the local press, represented by the Multan Press Club pledged its support to the medical com
munity. President Multan Press Club Shakeel Anjum stated the importance of Nishtar Hospital 1 as a national asset and vowed to oppose any move that could jeopardize the health and well-being of the people.
The situation has triggered concerns about the future of healthcare in Multan. Medical professionals and the public are demanding that the government reconsider its decision and take steps to ensure the continued provision of quality healthcare services at Nishtar Hospital 1.
On this occasion, Dr Imran Qaisarani, Dr Ishfaq Malik, Dr Qadir Khan, Dr Zulqarnain, Nisar Awan, Khalid Chaudhary, Rauf Maan, Nasir Shiekh and some others were also present.
