High Court Bar Hyderabad disallows CM KPK to vist, address lawyers

Hyderabad: The office bearers of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) Hyderabad seem to be at loggerheads in the matter of inviting Chief Minister KPK Muhammad Sohail Afridi to visit and address the bar.The SHCBA’s General Secretary advocate Israr Hussain Chang had on January 7 addressed a letter to CM Afridi inviting him to visit the bar during his upcoming visit to Hyderabad.While expressing support for Afridi’s stance about the 26th and the 27th constitutional amendments, he believed that the KPK’s CM would reciprocate by supporting Chang and other lawyers in their struggle against corporate farming, safeguarding Karoonjhar mountain and the water rights issues.However, a meeting of the SHCBA’s managing committee on Thursday rejected an application of the committee’s member advocate Azmatullah Channa to welcome Afridi in the bar, according to a press release issued here on Friday.The press release has been signed by the bar’s President advocate Ishrat Ali Lohar, Vice President Nisar Ahmed Channa, Jo
int Secretary advocate Ghulam Ali Talpur, Library Secretary advocate Zainul-Abedin Sahito and Treasurer advocate Zeeshan Ali Memon.According to these office bearers, the 12-member managing committee by a majority vote of 11 members had decided to reject advocate Channa’s application to welcome CM KPK and to allow him to address the bar as well.”Our General Secretary issued letter number 12/2026 dated January 7 titled ‘warm welcome and expression of solidarity’ in his personal capacity,” the press release stated.It underlined that the SHCBA neither accorded a permission nor allowed the CM KPK to visit the bar and address the lawyers.”The General Secretary used the letter head of the bar without consent of the managing committee for the aforesaid program,” the lawyers reiterated.
