Hyderabad: The Hyderabad district administration organized an awareness session at the new deputy commissioner’s complex on Monday regarding the upcoming fractional Inactivated Polio Vaccine (fIPV) booster campaign, which would be conducted from August 20 to 30, 2026.
Addressing the session, District Health Officer (DHO) Pir Ghulam Hussain presented a detailed briefing on the fIPV booster vaccine. He said the campaign would cover 70 union councils of Hyderabad district, where children aged four months to 10 years will be vaccinated using a jet injector.
He explained that oral polio vaccine (OPV) drops were administered to children up to five years of age, while the fIPV booster dose will be given through a jet injector to children between four months and 10 years. The booster aims to strengthen immunity against polio among children up to the age of 10. He assured participants that the vaccine was completely safe and that children receiving the booster would not experience pain or fever.
The DHO said the booster campaign would focus on areas where poliovirus had previously been detected in sewage samples collected from pumping stations. More than 300 vaccination teams would participate in the campaign across the 70 union councils surrounding these pumping stations, with a target of vaccinating approximately 250, 000 children aged four months to 10 years, he added.
He urged all segments of society, particularly the media, to play an active role in creating public awareness and supporting the health department and other relevant institutions in the fight against polio.
Pir Ghulam Hussain also warned that the monsoon season increases the risk of dengue fever and stressed the need for preventive measures and public awareness campaigns to protect people from the disease.
