Lahore: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday paid tribute to the police martyrs on the 18th anniversary of the GPO Chowk Lahore tragedy, reaffirming the department’s commitment to honouring their sacrifices and supporting their families.
In a statement, the IG said Punjab Police salutes the officers and personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. He recalled that on this day in 2008, 16 Punjab Police officers and personnel, including two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) and 14 officials, embraced martyrdom in the GPO Chowk tragedy.
Dr Usman Anwar said the sacrifices of the martyred police would always remain alive in the collective memory of the force and the nation. He described every officer of Lahore Police as a frontline defender of the country and its people, adding that the martyrs were a valuable asset of the police department.
He further said that the families of the martyrs had been provided employment in the police department and assured that all available resources were being utilised for the welfare and support of the heirs of the martyred personnel.
