Institution responsible to provide safe, dignified environment to women at workplace: Dr Najma Afzal

Faisalabad: An awareness campaign regarding the Anti-Harassment Act is underway across the province, in accordance with the directive of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif.



In this regard, Punjab Ombudsperson Dr. Najma Afzal chaired a training session arranged for capacity building of anti-harassment committees working in various government institutions held at the Commissioner’s Office committee room here on Tuesday.



Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Tanveer Murtaza and focal persons of the harassment committees from Government College Women University, Government College University, Government General Hospital Samanabad, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Hospital, Social Security Hospital, Allied Hospital-1, and Departments of Health, Education, and Colleges were present in the session.



Regional Director Prof Khalid Hassan, Personal Staff Officer to the Punjab Ombudsperson Hafiz Farooq Anwar, and others also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of providing a safe environment and ensuring justice for women.



Punjab Ombudsperson Dr. Najma Afzal stated that it is the responsibility of institutions to provide a safe and dignified environment to women at the workplace. She said that women can lodge their complaints against harassment even on plain paper.



She stated that training sessions are being organized to enhance the capacity of members of anti-harassment committees established within government departments.



These sessions aim to train members in conducting transparent inquiries into harassment cases, understanding legal requirements, and adhering to proper investigative procedures.



She emphasized the need to ensure a safe working environment for women and guarantee prompt access to justice. She also commended the efforts of Regional Director, Prof Khalid Hassan for arranging the training session.
