Karachi Mayor announces streetlights for Rabi-ul-Awwal, fumigation machines for UCs


Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab Friday said at the request of UC Chairmen, a decision was taken to provide streetlights in streets and neighbourhoods for Rabi-ul-Awwal.



“Today, we are fulfilling the promise made during the budget session. Along with this, fumigation machines are also being provided to Town Chairmen to improve municipal services at the UC level, ” he added.



He said that fire safety equipment, including oxygen masks and other necessary devices, had also been handed over to the Fire Brigade Department to ensure the safety of firefighters while extinguishing fires in the city. He added that non-functional fire tenders would also be restored this year and brought back to the streets and neighbourhoods of Karachi.



He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held at the head office of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), where fumigation machines were provided to Town Chairmen and modern streetlights were distributed among UC Chairmen.



KMC Municipal Commissioner Abrar Jaffer, Finance Advisor Gulzar Abro, Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentary Leader in the City Council Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Jaman Darwan, parliamentary leaders of other political parties and Chairmen of various UCs were also present on the occasion.



Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that a total of 500 modern streetlights had been provided to UC Chairmen and 50 fumigation machines to Town Chairmen. He said that the modern streetlights had been distributed among the Towns without any discrimination or distinction.



‘The purpose of providing these modern streetlights is to illuminate the respective areas and restore the lights and vibrancy of Karachi, ‘ he said.



He said that Karachi could be improved if everyone worked together for the development of the city. ‘A politics of tolerance has begun, and development works are being carried out in all areas of Karachi through your efforts. We should set aside our political differences and sit together to work for the betterment of this city, ‘ he said.



Mayor Karachi said that during the 75th anniversary celebrations of Pakistan-China relations, he had spoken with the Chinese Consul General about the Chinese government working on fumigation activities in Karachi. ‘We are grateful to the Chinese government for its cooperation in this regard, ‘ he said.



He said that details of all development works being carried out in Karachi were available on the KMC website. ‘The funds deposited in the accounts of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation are a trust of the people of this city. They are being spent transparently for the welfare and betterment of Karachi, and citizens can see the development work taking place, ‘ he said.



Mayor Karachi said that history would remember the work carried out by the City Council elected in 2023 and the manner in which it served the citizens. ‘This success is not only the success of Murtaza Wahab or Salman Abdullah Murad; it will be the success of the citizens of Karachi, ‘ he said.



He expressed hope that political differences would be set aside and all representatives would continue serving the city with the same commitment for the sake of Karachi and the mandate given by the people.



He thanked all his coalition partners for maintaining democratic traditions, saying that their cooperation had contributed to the ongoing development works in Karachi.



Regarding the issue of dog bites, the Mayor said that the KMC Council would have to decide what measures should be taken to address the issue in the best interest of the city. He said that the journey of development and progress would continue in the same manner.
