Peshawar: A consultative meeting of prominent religious scholars from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held under the supervision of the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Center (PIFTAC) herw on Thursday to discuss the role of religious leadership in preventing extremism and promoting peace in society.
The meeting featured in-depth deliberations on various aspects of countering violent extremism and identifying practical ways to foster a peaceful and tolerant social environment.
Participants emphasized that religious scholars have a critical responsibility in guiding communities toward harmony, moderation, and constructive dialogue.
Renowned scholars including Maulana Ehsan-ul-Haq, Maulana Hussain Ahmed, Maulana Merajuddin Sarkani, Allama Abid Hussain Shakiri, and Maulana Ubaid Sheikh attended the session.
They exchanged views on effective strategies and mechanisms to address the root causes of extremism and radicalization.
Discussions also focused on the registration of religious seminaries, streamlining their administrative systems, and strengthening coordination between madrasas and formal educational institutions such as schools, colleges, and universities.
The participants stressed the importance of sustained dialogue between madrasas and state institutions to ensure better understanding and cooperation.
The scholars underlined the need to equip madrasa students with contemporary education alongside religious studies to enable them to play a positive role in modern society.
They unanimously reiterated their complete rejection of violence and terrorism in all forms, asserting that dialogue and peaceful engagement remain the only viable path to resolving societal challenges.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment by the scholars to actively contribute to peace-building efforts and counter-extremism initiatives across the province.
