Lahore: Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique has said that under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Punjab Development Program (PDP), 90 out of 110 underground water tanks approved for 51 cities have been completed so far while 88 out of 124 drains have been 100 per cent completed.

Presiding over a review meeting held at the Civil Secretariat, he said that the immediate drainage of rainwater in areas with water tanks has been of great help. “Based on the success of this experiment, it has been decided to increase the number of storage tanks”, he revealed.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Local Government Zaid Bin Maqsood, Special Secretary Shahid Zaman Lak, Additional Secretary Mehreen Fahim Abbasi, concerned Municipal Officers (Infrastructure) and Assistant Project Directors through video link.

Minister Zeeshan Rafique expressed the hope that further improvements would be made in the next phase by connecting underground water tanks to drains and constructing disposal stations.

The minister directed the dewatering of storage tanks after every rain, saying that the work should be carried out keeping in mind the alert of new spells of rain.
