HYDERABAD: Provincial Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that due to the recent rains, there has been a lot of damages to the infrastructure across the province, including Hyderabad, and the government also delegated powers of local
bodies to the Deputy Commissioners for two months so that affected people could be rehabilitated.
He said this while addressing a meeting at Shehbaz Hall on Wednesday to review post rain situation in Hyderabad.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, elected representatives belonging to Pakistan People’s Party, MQM Pakistan and concerned officers were present on the occasion.
Nasir Shah said on the directives of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister had visited Hyderabad and other areas of the province to review post rain situation.
He said the Sindh government had allocated huge amount for the development schemes of Hyderabad and work would be started soon for the improvement of the damaged infrastructure.
He said a Rs.100 million grant for Water and Sanitation Agency had been released by the provincial government which will help in bringing this organization more vibrant.
Nasir Shah said recent rains had inflicted heavy losses as 780 percent more rains occurred which ruined almost all infrastructure in cities, towns and the rural areas.
With joint efforts of all stakeholders reconstruction of the road network and rehabilitation of the affected population would be ensured, he added.
The minister said due to rains tent cities had been established to provide shelters to rain hit people where cooked food, rations and clean drinking water are being provided to them.
He directed the DC to initiate action against illegal encroachments over state land and all encroached areas should be retrieved without any discrimination.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon
said he had invited LG minister to review rain and flood situation so that issues could be resolved as soon as possible.
He said the district administration, HMC, WASA and other relevant institutions were working day and night to face the post rain situation while Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) had also started working to dispose of the garbage from residential areas.
Memon told the meeting that action against encroachment near Boulevard Mall was highly appreciated by people of Latifabad unit 4 and 12.
He said rain water from urban areas had been drained out while 80 percent rural areas were still under water due to which the situation deteriorated day by day.
The meeting was briefed by Deputy Commissioner Fuad Ghaffar Soomro while elected representatives of PPP and MQM also presented their suggestions for resolution of people’s problems.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister Saghir Ahmed Qureshi, MPAs Abdul Jabbar Khan, Nadeem Ahmed Siddiqui, Nasir Qureshi, Senator Aajiz Dhanrah and others also attended the meeting.
Later, Local Govt Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah along with Information Minister Sharjeel Memon visited rain affected areas and reviewed arrangements in relief camps.
