Lahore: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Lahore, raided and shut down two alleged illegal call centers operating in Johar Town and Faisal Town, arresting more than three dozen suspects.
According to Additional Director NCCIA Lahore Zone Atif Ameer, foreign nationals were allegedly targeted for fraud through the call centers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly defrauded foreign citizens on the pretext of providing mobile phone upgrades and other services. A large number of computers, laptops and mobile phones were seized during the raids.
Officials said several vehicles allegedly purchased with proceeds from the criminal activities were also impounded. The identities and roles of the call center owners, facilitators and other suspects would be determined during the course of the investigation.
Cases were registered against the suspects under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code.
