ISLAMABAD:Ramazan, the 9th month of the Islamic year, is the time when Muslims around the world fast [abstain from food] from dawn till dusk. It is also an occasion for many philanthropists and NGOs to feed the hungry.
Mukhtar Begum and Ghulam Qadir (MGQ), a NGO, will be arranging an Iftar for the elderly and homeless people on Sunday. Those men and women who have been deserted by their families and are living in a shelter home run by the same NGO would be served with meal so that they don’t feel abandoned.
Located at Murree Road, Rawalpindi, MGQ was founded by the late Haji Siddique. It has been doing philanthropic work for the last twelve years and aims to expand its network across Pakistan. Posted on their respective social media account, MGQ is looking for donations for effective operational activities.
Samana, who works with MGQ, informed that another NGO named ‘Who is Hussain’ was also co-sponsoring the Iftar dinner. Samana also requested the civil society especially students to come forward in extending support to the NGO.

She further apprised that their network was indigenous, mainly relied on local contributors, who provide cash to them.
Around 40 to 50,000 PKR is the expected cost for this Iftar meal as ‘MGQ’ is looking for more donations from the affluent people.
Pakistan is regarded as one of the few countries where despite economic difficulties people come forward to extend help and assistance. Some of the examples are; Edhi Foundation and Jaffria Divison Center (JDC). Many others have also joined in to provide relief to those who could not afford to meet their livelihood in this inflationary phase of life.
These organizations are running their day to day affairs from the amount deposited by Pakistanis residing in the country or overseas and have a mass appeal on their social media accounts.
