PESHAWAR:The experts of international relations here Tuesday while terming the extraordinary summit of foreign ministers of Organisations of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad as a landmark development, said it would help strengthen bonds of unity, brotherhood, bilateral and economic cooperation among 57 members countries.
Professor Dr. Khursheed Ahmad of the International Relations Department, University of Peshawar told reporter that hosting of the 48th Foreign Ministers’ council meeting of OIC at Islamabad was great honour for Pakistan.
He said the moot would promote brotherhood, harmony and mutual cooperation among members states for an inclusive and sustainable socioeconomic development.
Dr Khursheed Ahmad said the extraordinary meeting of the OIC on occasion of the 82th Pakistan Day’s celebrations carried immense significance for our country.
He said the meeting was being organised at crucial time when people of the war ravaged Afghanistan was looking towards Muslim countries including the oil rich Gulf states for urgent economic and financial assistance to avert the looming humanitarian crisis there.
Dr Khursheed said the entire world was eying on Islamabad where important resolutions, agreements and decisions would be passed and taken during the two days summit.
Former Ambassador, Manzoorul Haq said that participation of over 600 delegates including Secretary-General OIC Hissein Brahim Taha, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Fuad Mohammad Hussain, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Kazakhstan, Deputy Prime Minister/ Foreign Minister Qatar, Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zubairu Dada, UAE State Minister, President Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Mohammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, Permanent Representative of Lebanon to OIC Dr. Fawzi Mohamad Mounzer Kabbara and other delegations would come out with concrete and viable solutions to various problems being faced by the Muslims world in particular and world in general.
He said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi at OIC has also attended the summit that would help further strengthen bilateral and economic engagement between Pakistan and China.
“The OIC during its 53 years life had achieved significant achievements including establishment of special fund with assistance of UNRWA for assistance of refugees of Palestine, formation of OIC Contact Group on Jummu and Kashmir, raising voices in support of oppressed Bosnia Muslims at UN Security Council and adaptation of collective stand against Islamophobia.”
Ambassador Manzoor who served Pakistan ambassador at Saudi Arabia and Egypt said Pakistan being the founder member of this great organisation had succeeded in formation of OIC Contact Group on Jummu and Kashmir, established COMSTAK at Islamabad to help members states in promotion of science and technology.
