Lahore: More than 89, 000 applications have so far been received through the portal of the Punjab government’s ‘Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat’ programme, which is receiving widespread appreciation from citizens, a meeting of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) Governing Body was told.
The meeting, chaired by Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin, reviewed PHATA’s annual performance, future targets and progress on various housing initiatives. The body was also presented with PHATA’s budget for the first time.
The meeting was briefed on progress and achievements under the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ programme, with Bilal Yasin expressing satisfaction with PHATA’s performance. Officials also briefed the participants on the provision of free plots to citizens under the ‘Apni Zameen Apna Ghar’ programme.
The governing body approved expansion of the Affordable Housing Programme on PHATA-owned land. Bilal Yasin directed the authorities to ensure effective implementation of PHATA rules in affordable housing schemes.
The minister said approval of residential schemes on green areas had created environmental hazards and directed authorities to accelerate enforcement action against illegal housing schemes. He said facilitating developers who comply with the law was a government priority, while those involved in fraudulently selling files to citizens should be brought to justice.
Bilal Yasin directed the relevant authorities to ensure strict compliance with laws and regulations governing housing projects, saying the measures were essential to providing citizens with safe and affordable housing.
